Arguments and Counter-Arguments. The Political Thought of the 14th-and 15th Centuries during the Polish-Teutonic Order Trials and Disputes

Polish-Teutonic Order antagonism dominated Polish foreign policy in both the 14th and 15th centuries. One form of solving the Poland-Lithuania, Masovia, Słupsk Pomerania and Teutonic Order conflicts was a lawsuit. The present volume contains eight articles concerning selected aspects of the Polish-Teutonic Order trials in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries. Their authors belong to the younger and middle-aged generation of researchers in Australia, Poland and the United States. Their publications present the most recent trends and results in the field of the Order's trials with its neighbour countries in Central and Eastern Europe, where the aspects of national, historical and political identity started to play an important role at that time. It appears that political thought of the 14th and 15th centuries is very original in many points and can serve as a valuable inspiration in development of modern political thought.Introduction / 7 Aleksander Anikowski The Teutonic Order arguments during trials and peace negotiations in the 14th and the beginning of the 15th century / 19 Sylwia Getka-Pesta Duke Konrad of Masovia in the light of materials from the trials of the Teutonic Order against Poland and Masovia in the 14th and 15th centuries / 35 Darius von Güttner-Sporzyński Memorialisation and historical awareness – aspects of the witness‘ testimonies in the trials between Poland and the Teutonic Order in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries / 55 Radosław Kotecki The Desecration of Holy Places According to Witnesses’ Testimonies in the Polish-Teutonic Order Trials of the 14th Century / 69 Aleksandra Lenartowicz Paweł Włodkowic and Andreas Laskary as the authors of the Polish revindication Programme against the State of the Teutonic Order in 1412–1418 / 111 Paul Milliman Melius ius ad terram Pomeranie: Ethnicity and Historical Consciousness in the 1339 Trial between Poland and the Teutonic Knights / 123 Wiesław Sieradzan Benedek (Benedict) Makrai as a Subarbiter in the Conflict between the Teutonic Order and its Neighbour Countries in 1412–1413 / 157 Dariusz Wróbel The Ideological Foundations of the Polish Repossession Programme towards the State of the Teutonic Order in Prussia in the First Half of the 15th Century (1412–1422) / 171 Pictures / 201
